HOWEVER, a good artist will always leave some sort of update and notify commissioners of their status. Note that these are prone to change if some life-altering incident occurs. While life may happen and cause issues, they'll do their best to : Inform customers about their commission status Have an easy way to be contacted Will be direct and honest with others Won't make excuses for their behavior Deliver their commissions as expected by their own standardsObviously it's a bit more than that, but these are what I've found in consistently good artists that deliver commissions. A mature artist will understand their responsibilities. Maybe you made a mistake! Maybe the customer made mistake? How can we handle this in the most mature way possible? First and foremost, understand that while commissioners are understanding, when money is involved, you have a commitment. An Immature Commission Artist : Why am I talking about maturity before anything else regarding commissions? Doing commissions requires a certain level of maturity! No matter how young or old you are, you need to be able to communicate well! This is especially important when handling money. You want to do your best to avoid the latter.

That's right! Being an artist who takes on commissions involves a lot of communication! And that's something you got to learn overtime! You have to talk to people, but you also have to know HOW to do it! There are certain behaviors commissioners are going to accept and certain things they will not. Nowadays, I take it more seriously and try to improve my skills whether it be my artwork or communicating with others. I never got into doing commissions trying to make the most money or a quick buck. It was a simple, "I see others doing it, people are asking me for requests, I might as well make money, lol." Not the most interesting story, but a pretty average one for many starting out. I can't make you instantly rich or famous lol RESPONSIBILITY/COMMUNICATION : When I first started commissions it wasn't a BIG, GRAND EXPERIENCE. So don't expect any get-rich-quick stuff in here. At the end of the day, I can only speak from my experience. Please keep this in mind before telling me something didn't work out because I warned you at the very beginning. Some things will be different and maybe won't apply to you. Please understand this when reading about my perspective. I do make good money from doing commissions, but it is not my main source of income.
